A deadly overnight crash on US 2 near Monroe left three people dead and another seriously injured after a vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The collision happened just after 12:50 a.m. Saturday, April 18, near Sofie Road at milepost 18, where a westbound vehicle attempted to pass another car and entered the eastbound lane, according to Washington State Patrol.

That vehicle then struck an oncoming car head-on.

A second occupant in the westbound vehicle was seriously injured and taken to a hospital, according to authorities.

Both vehicles came to rest on their respective shoulders following the impact.

The investigation into the cause of the crash remains ongoing.
