A deadly overnight crash on US 2 near Monroe left three people dead and another seriously injured after a vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic, according to the Washington State Patrol.
The collision happened just after 12:50 a.m. Saturday, April 18, near Sofie Road at milepost 18, where a westbound vehicle attempted to pass another car and entered the eastbound lane, according to Washington State Patrol.
That vehicle then struck an oncoming car head-on.
A 26-year-old man driving the westbound vehicle was killed in the crash, according to troopers. The driver of the eastbound vehicle, a 33-year-old woman, and her 33-year-old male passenger also died.
A second occupant in the westbound vehicle was seriously injured and taken to a hospital, according to authorities.
Both vehicles came to rest on their respective shoulders following the impact.
The crash forced a full closure of Highway 2 in the area for several hours overnight as troopers conducted their investigation. All lanes reopened shortly before 5 a.m.
The investigation into the cause of the crash remains ongoing.
