A child was taken to the hospital Sunday afternoon after being struck by a car near a Tacoma park.
The incident occurred around 11:50 a.m. on McKinley Avenue just north of East 43rd Street, near Verlo Playfield.
Witnesses reported hearing screeching tires followed by screams moments before emergency crews arrived on scene.
Personnel from the Tacoma Fire Department and an ambulance responded to the scene within minutes.
Witnesses observed the child standing and walking around before being evaluated by medics. However, it is unclear what injuries, if any, the child may have suffered.
The child was later transported to a hospital by ambulance. Officials had not released information about the child’s age, condition, or the extent of any injuries as of publication.
Traffic was temporarily impacted along McKinley Avenue while emergency crews worked in the area.
Few details about the collision were immediately available. It was unknown whether the driver remained at the scene, or if any citations or arrests were being considered.
