  • Changes in mood. Sunlight is also linked to serotonin, a brain chemical involved in mood and feelings of well-being. Some people are especially sensitive to seasonal changes in daylight, which can leave them feeling both tired and a little down.

It’s Not Just About Rain

Interestingly, the rain itself probably isn’t making you sleepy.

The calming sound of rainfall, cooler temperatures and spending more time indoors can all add to the cozy feeling, but researchers say the reduction in daylight is likely doing most of the heavy lifting.

That’s one reason experts often recommend stepping outside for 20 to 30 minutes in the morning—even if the sky is completely gray.
