A man was killed and another injured early Saturday, Aug. 23, when a vehicle fleeing a DUI investigation crashed into a building in north Everett.

The wreck happened around 2:30 a.m. on Rucker Avenue near 44th Street, close to the Totem Pole Diner, according to Everett Police.

Two men were inside the car when it struck the building. One was pronounced dead at the scene and the other was taken to the hospital, police said. The injured man’s condition was not immediately clear.

Saturday’s chase began in South Everett, where Washington State Patrol troopers were conducting a DUI investigation. The vehicle involved fled the stop and continued northbound before losing control and hitting the building, according to police.

Rucker Avenue was closed in both directions for several hours while the agency’s Traffic Safety Unit investigated. The road has since reopened.

The name of the man killed has not been released. Police said the investigation remains active.
