Famed defense attorney Mark Geragos claims he overheard strangers at a Washington, D.C., restaurant discussing the US bombing of Iran hours before American and Israeli strikes began.
Geragos told TMZ he was seated at the bar area of Joe’s Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab around 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, when he heard a group at a nearby table openly discussing what he described as a coming military operation.
Geragos told the outlet four men in business attire were seated at a high-top table, with two women standing nearby. According to Geragos, one of the men said in a voice loud enough to be heard clearly that the United States was going to bomb Iran “today.”
Geragos said he did not know who the individuals were. The restaurant is located just a stone’s throw from the White House.
Geragos shared the account while preparing to record the podcast “2 Angry Men” with Harvey Levin. Just before recording, Levin asked why Geragos chose to broadcast from the restaurant. Geragos responded that the nearby conversation was so compelling he did not want to leave.
Later in the episode, Geragos hinted at what he had overheard, saying, “By the time this drops in Iran, I’ll leave it at that.” He then stated directly, “Today is the day.”
Hours later, the United States and Israel launched airstrikes on Iranian targets, as Puget Press reported.
Geragos also told TMZ one man at the table sang a parody of the Beach Boys’ “Barbara Ann,” changing the lyrics to “Bomb, Bomb, Bomb … Bomb, Bomb Iran.”
It is unclear whether the individuals were government officials or had direct knowledge of military plans.
Geragos is a high-profile criminal defense attorney who has represented a string of headline-making clients over the past three decades, including pop star Michael Jackson, singer Chris Brown, and convicted murderer Scott Peterson.
Known for taking on controversial and nationally watched cases, Geragos frequently appears on television as a legal analyst and co-hosts the podcast 2 Angry Men.
