A 32-foot boat burst into flames at the Port of Everett’s Central Marina Friday morning, Aug. 1, prompting a large emergency response and forcing the closure of the marina’s fuel dock.

The fire broke out around 9:36 a.m. at the marina’s fuel dock, located in the 400 block of 14th Street, according to the Everett Fire Department.

Everett Police officers aboard Marine 1, a joint patrol boat shared with fire crews, were already on the water and began attacking the flames using the vessel’s deck-mounted water cannon. Firefighters arrived shortly after and worked to fully extinguish the blaze, which took about 30 minutes.

The burning boat, which was carrying 300 gallons of fuel, had drifted from the dock after its mooring lines burned away. Officers quickly secured the vessel with a second line to prevent it from drifting further, allowing firefighters to establish a water supply.

Four people and a dog were on board when the fire started. All safely evacuated. Two people were evaluated on scene for smoke inhalation. No other injuries were reported.

Thanks to the swift response, the fire was contained to the single vessel and did not spread to neighboring boats. The Washington Department of Ecology and U.S. Coast Guard responded to assess for any leaks or environmental damage. No spills were detected.

The Port of Everett’s fuel dock sustained damage in the fire and is closed until further notice. Updates on its reopening will be shared by port officials.

The burned vessel was removed from the water around 11:50 a.m. A total of 15 fire units responded to the scene, with support from the Marysville Fire District.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Everett Fire Marshal’s Office.
