A food delivery shift in Lynnwood ended with a crash, a car fire, and a K9 takedown after a DoorDash driver allegedly caused chaos while high on meth, police said.
The incident unfolded around 9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, in the 5100 block of 192nd Street, according to the Lynnwood Police Department.
Officers said the driver crashed into a tree, then pulled out a lighter and set his own car on fire before running off. An officer used a fire extinguisher to knock down the flames while another officer and a K9 tracked the suspect to his hiding spot under a parked car.
A drug recognition expert determined the driver was high on methamphetamines, police said. The man admitted to the crash, the fire, and fleeing on foot, telling officers he had been out delivering food.
No injuries were reported.
The driver was booked on charges of second-degree arson, DUI (drugs), and hit-and-run. Police credited the teamwork of multiple officers — from extinguishing the fire to making the arrest — for quickly closing the case.
