A Vancouver father is facing kidnapping and related charges after allegedly assaulting his infant son and taking the child from his mother.
Raul Martinez Guevara, 37, was taken into custody Tuesday night, Sept. 1, at a Vancouver home in the 3300 block of East 18th Street, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.
The arrest came about two weeks after authorities safely recovered 7-month-old Marcello Martinez.
A third party contacted Marcello’s mother Aug. 18 and told her that Martinez Guevara had turned over the child, according to the sheriff’s office. Law enforcement officers met with the third party and recovered Marcello, who appeared healthy and happy, the agency said.
Martinez Guevara was not with the child and remained wanted until Tuesday night.
The case began at about 10 a.m. Aug. 16, when deputies responded to the Hazel Dell area. Investigators alleged that Martinez Guevara violated a domestic violence no-contact order before assaulting and robbing the child’s mother, police said.
Martinez Guevara also allegedly assaulted Marcello and took him without permission, the agency said. Martinez Guevara is the child’s father.
The Washington State Patrol issued an AMBER Alert during the search because investigators believed Marcello could be in danger.
Martinez Guevara was booked into the Clark County Jail on suspicion of robbery, kidnapping, and assault of a child.
He’s also charged with custodial interference, assault, and violating a protection order.
At the time of his arrest, Martinez Guevara had outstanding warrants for burglary and violating a protection order, police said.
The Clark County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the case.
