UPDATE 7:45 pm: A single-engine plane crashed into a yard near a Lake Stevens air park Sunday evening, leaving the aircraft’s sole occupant trapped with serious injuries as neighbors rushed to provide first aid.
Emergency crews responded around 6:05 p.m. to the reported crash near the 11000 block of 127th Avenue Northeast, according to Snohomish County Fire District 22.
Getchell firefighters were handling an unrelated medical call nearby when the crash was reported. A Getchell chief officer diverted from that call and arrived to find the single-engine aircraft in a yard next to the Frontier Air Park community.
The only person aboard the aircraft was trapped and had suffered serious injuries, fire officials said.
Neighbors began providing first aid before emergency crews reached the scene.
“Their quick actions helped provide the best possible outcome for the occupant,” Snohomish County Fire District 22 said.
Additional responding crews worked to quickly free the occupant from the aircraft. The injured pilot was then taken to an area trauma center.
Officials did not release the pilot’s identity or provide an update on their condition beyond describing the injuries as serious.
The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash.
Fire officials said there is no ongoing risk to the surrounding community.
