A Port Angeles man reported missing was found dead a week later in a wooded area near his home.
David Boyd was reported missing by a family member after they had not seen or heard from him for four to five days, according to the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office.
His last known contact with family was on Saturday, Dec. 20, and relatives said it was unusual for him to be out of touch.
Deputies initially attempted to locate Boyd by checking local hospitals and behavioral health facilities, but those efforts were unsuccessful, the sheriff’s office said. After Boyd’s vehicle and phone were found at his residence, concerns grew that he may have wandered into a nearby wooded area.
A search and rescue mission was activated, and teams deployed to the North Lee’s Creek Road area on the morning of Saturday, Dec. 27, deputies said.
About 90 minutes into the search, Boyd was located deceased down a steep embankment near a creek bed. He was found by a Kitsap County K-9 team using a cross-trained dog capable of both ground tracking and cadaver detection.
A coordinated recovery operation was conducted by Clallam County Search and Rescue, Port Angeles Fire Department, and Clallam 2 Fire Rescue. Responders used a pulley and rope system to safely extract Boyd from the embankment, police said.
Next of kin has been notified. No foul play is suspected at this time, according to the sheriff’s office.
Additional details about Boyd’s life were not immediately available. Loved ones are invited to share a statement, funeral details, and/or photos by emailing michael@pugetpress.com.
