A quiet moment on a Lake Stevens front porch is warming hearts across the community.
Home security video shared Thursday morning, March 12, by homeowner Sarah Hamblin shows a delivery driver pausing at her front porch after discovering an American flag that had fallen during Wednesday night’s windstorm.
Rather than ignore it, the unidentified driver chose to stop and handle it with care, neatly folding it and placing it near the woman’s front door.
“Early this morning a delivery driver noticed our flag had fallen from the pole during the wind storm last night,” Hamblin wrote in the Lake Stevens Community Facebook group. “Instead of ignoring it, he carefully folded it and left it neatly at our door.”
In the clip, the man is seen taking a step back and saluting the flag before walking back to his vehicle.
For Hamblin and thousands who saw the video online, the quiet act of respect turned a rough night of weather into a small but meaningful moment of community pride.
“Small acts of respect and kindness like this don’t go unnoticed,” she wrote. “Thank you sir.”
Within hours, the post drew thousands of reactions and dozens of comments from community members praising the gesture. “That’s gotta be a military man,” Katie Green wrote.
Another commenter, Julie Janz, said the driver previously served in the armed forces. “He is former military,” Janz wrote. “He genuinely is just a very respectful man that loves and respects his country and our flag.”
Others focused on the emotional impact of the moment. “Oh my heart,” Kim Newman wrote. “People’s sense of honor shouldn’t come as such a surprise, but man, does it bless the heart to witness.”
Jody Baumgartner said the video offered a rare moment of positivity. “To see this during all the turmoil in our country, well, it fills my heart and restores my faith in humanity,” Baumgartner wrote.
The gesture also aligns with guidance in the US Flag Code, which states that the American flag should never be allowed to touch the ground and should be handled respectfully if it does.
The overnight storm that knocked the flag down brought strong winds and steady rain across Western Washington Wednesday night, March 11. In Snohomish County, PUD reported more than 1,100 power outages as trees and branches fell across the region.
