A Port Townsend couple is receiving an outpouring of community support after a sudden medical emergency led to a major, life-saving surgery and months of recovery ahead.

Friends, family, and neighbors are stepping up to help Corey Knudson and his wife, Corrie Black Knudson, as they navigate a long recovery following Corey’s recent abdominal aortic aneurysm surgery.

Corey underwent surgery Monday, March 16, at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where doctors repaired the aneurysm using an endoscopic procedure after determining open surgery would be too risky, according to the GoFundMe campaign.

He has since been discharged and returned home, marking an important milestone—but only the beginning of a lengthy recovery process.

Doctors expect Corey will need several months to heal and may not be able to return to work, even part time, for at least three month.

“That’s a long time to go without any paychecks,” reads the fundraiser.

The couple, longtime members of the Port Townsend community, both work for themselves. Corey is a remodeling contractor who has spent years helping local homeowners improve and maintain their properties, while Corrie runs her own Etsy business.

Because Corey is the primary breadwinner, the sudden loss of income—paired with ongoing living expenses—has created an added layer of stress during an already difficult time.

“They need to be able to focus on Corey’s recovery without the added stress of financial pressure,” reads the campaign.

Funds raised will go toward essential costs, including housing, utilities, groceries, and travel expenses tied to Corey’s medical care and recovery.

“Our families are asking for support for our loved ones… as they begin a long recovery,” organizers said in the fundraiser.

They added that any contributions—or simply sharing the campaign—can make a meaningful difference as the couple works through the months ahead.

“Thank you for helping them get through the months ahead.”
