A man shot during an early morning robbery in Seattle’s Belltown neighborhood has died, prompting detectives to upgrade the case to a homicide.

The shooting happened shortly after 5:30 a.m. Thursday, April 9, at an apartment in the 2400 block of 4th Avenue, according to the Seattle Police Department.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting and found a 41-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the head, police said. Officers provided aid until Seattle Fire Department crews arrived and transported him to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition.

The victim died at the hospital around 3:35 a.m. Friday, April 10, police said.

Detectives have since upgraded the armed robbery investigation to a homicide, and the Seattle Police Department’s Homicide Unit has taken over the case.

A second man was also assaulted during the incident and pistol-whipped, suffering minor injuries, police said.

Investigators determined the suspect shot one victim and assaulted the other during the robbery, though it remains unclear what was taken.

No suspect has been arrested as of Friday, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Seattle Police Department’s Violent Crimes Tip Line at 206-233-5000.
