Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani has been hospitalized in critical condition, his spokesperson said Sunday, May 3.
The update was provided by Ted Goodman, who said Giuliani, 81, is “critical but stable” in a statement. No details were released about what led to the hospitalization.
“Mayor Giuliani is a fighter who has faced every challenge in his life with unwavering strength, and he’s fighting with that same level of strength as we speak,” Goodman said.
No additional information about his condition or location has been made public.
President Donald Trump addressed Giuliani’s condition in a post on Truth Social, calling him a “true warrior” and praising his tenure as New York City mayor.
Trump said Giuliani “has been hospitalized, and is in critical condition.” He also criticized political opponents in the same message, alleging Giuliani had been treated unfairly. “So sad!” he added.
Giuliani rose to national prominence as a federal prosecutor before serving two terms as mayor of New York City from 1994 to 2001. He was widely credited with leading the city through the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, a period that defined his public image for years.
After leaving office, Giuliani worked in the private sector as a consultant and attorney, later returning to the political spotlight as a close ally and personal lawyer to President Trump. In recent years, he has remained an outspoken and often controversial figure in national politics.
Giuliani has two children from his second marriage to Donna Hanover. He has been married three times — first to Regina Peruggi, then to Hanover, and later to Judith Nathan, from whom he finalized a divorce in 2023 after a prolonged legal battle.
