A 14-year-old Silverdale boy was arrested after allegedly assaulting a customer who confronted him about shoplifting at a Bremerton supermarket.

The incident happened around 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 28, at a Safeway store, according to the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office. A shopper told deputies he saw the teenager stealing merchandise inside the store and confronted him.

The teen allegedly responded by striking the man multiple times and threatening to pull a gun before running toward the exit, according to deputies.

The shopper and another person chased after the teenager outside the store and detained him until law enforcement arrived. Deputies searched the boy’s backpack and recovered a stolen item from the store, according to the agency.

Investigators said no firearm or other weapon was found on the teenager or among his belongings.

The boy was booked into the Kitsap County Juvenile Detention Center on suspicion of second-degree robbery.

According to the sheriff’s office, the case was classified as a robbery investigation because of the alleged physical assault and verbal threat that occurred during the incident.
