Tributes are pouring in for a beloved Mount Vernon electrician who died unexpectedly, leaving behind a devastated wife and three children.

Jonathan “Jon” Lamica passed away on June 14 while visiting family in Illinois, according to his obituary. A cause of death was not given.

A fundraiser created to support his family said Lamica died following an “unknown medical event.”

His sudden death has left family, friends, and community members mourning the loss of a man remembered for his devotion to his wife, children, faith, and friends.

“We are heartbroken to announce the sudden passing of Jon Lamica, a devoted husband, loving father, cherished son, uncle, nephew, and loyal friend,” Kenny Wright wrote in an online tribute.

Remembered As A Dedicated Family Man

Lamica was born March 14, 1985, in Portsmouth, Virginia, and graduated from Burlington-Edison High School in 2003.

He married Brittany McKinney on Jan. 26, 2013, in Mount Vernon.

He is survived by his wife, Brittany, and their three children, Maddox, Selah, and Tenley.

The family’s SupportNow fundraiser describes the profound loss facing those closest to him.

“His kindness, generosity, loyalty, and unwavering love for his family touched countless lives, leaving an immeasurable void in all our hearts,” organizers wrote.

Friends echoed those sentiments online.

“Great man, great husband and a great father,” Chris Goodman wrote in a tribute.

From Fitness Trainer To Electrician

According to his obituary, Lamica worked as a fitness and CrossFit trainer for several years before beginning an apprenticeship as an electrician.

He was an active member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Mount Vernon and belonged to a local electrical union in Washington.

Outside of work, Lamica was known as an avid sports fan, particularly when it came to the Dallas Cowboys. He also enjoyed collecting and trading sports cards and Pokémon cards.

But those who knew him say family always came first.

“Most of all, he loved spending time with his family,” his obituary states.

Community Rallies Around His Wife And Children

A fundraising campaign has been established to help support Brittany and the couple’s three children as they navigate the weeks and months ahead.

“The loss of a husband and father brings immense emotional pain, and the financial challenges that come with it only add to the stress,” organizers wrote.

The fundraiser states that donations will help cover funeral expenses, household needs, and ongoing family support while the family focuses on healing and honoring Lamica’s memory.

Private memorial services are planned through Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services in Abingdon, Illinois.
