A Tennessee woman is suing Amazon after a folding grill stand she purchased through the online retailer allegedly collapsed while she was using it, partially amputating one of her fingers.
The lawsuit, filed in the US District Court for the Western District of Washington, alleges the Seattle-based retailer sold a defective Pariplus folding grill stand that unexpectedly collapsed during normal use, causing serious injuries.
According to the complaint, Benita Greiner purchased the grill stand from Amazon in June 2025. She alleges she was using it as intended the following July when it “suddenly and unexpectedly collapsed,” partially amputating her right middle finger and causing other painful injuries.
Greiner alleges the grill stand was defectively designed and manufactured, making it unreasonably dangerous for consumers. She claims the product contained unsafe pinch points and that safer alternative designs were available.
The lawsuit also cites a Consumer Product Safety Commission warning issued in March 2026 involving the same grill stand.
According to the complaint, the agency reported at least 21 incidents in which consumers’ fingers became caught in pinch points as the product folded or collapsed. Those incidents included a fingertip amputation, a fractured finger, and five lacerations requiring stitches.
Greiner alleges Amazon knew or should have known about the defects but “put profit ahead of safety” by continuing to sell the grill stand without adequately warning consumers, according to the complaint.
The lawsuit states the grill stand was manufactured by Maiduo, a Chinese company that Greiner alleges is not subject to service of process in the United States. Amazon.com Services LLC is the sole defendant in the case.
Greiner is asserting claims of strict products liability, negligence, breach of implied warranty, and breach of express warranty.
She is seeking damages for medical expenses, physical pain, emotional suffering, diminished enjoyment of life and other losses, with the amount to be determined at trial. She has also requested a jury trial.
