A family dispute turned deadly in a Puyallup neighborhood when an armed man shot two women — killing one — before a neighbor intervened and fatally shot him, police said.

Puyallup Police officers responded around 9:10 a.m. Thursday, April 2, to a domestic violence incident in the 1200 block of 31st Street NW, according to the department.

Investigators said the dispute began inside a home and spilled into the street, where three family members ended up in a neighbor’s driveway and garage. During the confrontation, an adult man armed with a handgun shot two adult women, police said.

A nearby resident, who had been inside their home, came outside and intervened, fatally shooting the man, according to police.

Emergency crews with Central Pierce Fire and Rescue provided aid at the scene. One of the women was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, while the other woman and the suspected shooter were pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The Pierce County Medical Examiner identified the man who was killed as Arnino Velasco Guanlao, 47, of Puyallup. The woman who died was identified as Christiannel Lyle Macapagal Maningat, 23, also of Puyallup.

The 47-year-old man is believed to be either the father or stepfather of both victims, Puyallup Police told The News Tribune.

The second woman, 26, survived the shooting and remains hospitalized, police said.

Detectives with the Puyallup Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division are leading the case, with assistance from the Metro Cities Crime Response Unit. The investigation remains ongoing.

Additional details about Maningat’s life were not immediately available. Loved ones are invited to share a statement, funeral details, and/or photos by emailing michael@pugetpress.com.
