Longtime KFC locations in Snohomish and Monroe have abruptly shut their doors, with new ownership moving in with plans for an “exciting” next chapter for the sites.
The restaurants – located on Avenue D in Snohomish and Highway 2 in Monroe – sat shuttered as of Friday, April 3, with signs on the doors pointing customers to other KFC locations in Woodinville and Monroe.
A Chipotle is planned for the former KFC site in Snohomish, according to city permit records. Plans show the building will undergo both interior and exterior upgrades before reopening, with the new restaurant expected to feature in-store dining and a mobile order pickup lane instead of a traditional drive-thru.
Plans for the Monroe site were not immediately clear.
Ryan Cornish, senior vice president at Pacific Asset Advisors, would only say that his firm recently acquired the former KFC properties in Snohomish, Monroe, and Beaverton, Oregon. He said an official announcement about “three new exciting tenants” was expected at a later date.
When asked specifically about the Monroe location, Cornish added that a deal would be announced soon and called it a “great addition to the market.”
The closures appear to have caught many off guard. Customers said there were no visible signs the restaurant was shutting down just days earlier, and some reported showing up to find the doors locked and others in the parking lot confused by the sudden change.
“I was just there about a week ago and no signs of them closing then,” one person wrote in a local online discussion.
Others shared memories of the location, which had been a fixture in the community for decades.
“This KFC was my first job in 1988,” another commenter wrote.
No timeline has been given for redevelopment of the Snohomish and Monroe sites.
