Four students and a security guard were taken to hospitals after a stabbing at Foss High School in Tacoma on Thursday, April 30.

Emergency crews responded to the campus on South Tyler Street just before 1:40 p.m. for reports of a stabbing, according to the Tacoma Fire Department. When they arrived, they found five injured victims and transported all of them to hospitals.

At least four of the victims are juveniles, including one with severe chest injuries, according to preliminary police radio communications. The fifth victim is a security guard who suffered cut injuries.

Four patients were initially listed in critical condition while one had minor injuries, a Tacoma Police spokesperson told Puget Press. All patients were later upgraded to stable condition.

A juvenile suspect was arrested at the scene and hospitalized in stable condition, police said.

Officials had not confirmed the victims’ ages or the extent of their injuries as of press time. It was not clear whether all five were stabbed or if they were injured by some other means.

Authorities did not speculate on a possible motive for the attack, though one caller told 911 dispatchers the incident occurred following a fight.

Puget Press has reached out to Tacoma Police and Tacoma Public Schools and will update this story as more information becomes available.
