A newly married Pennsylvania couple is dead after authorities say a man shot his wife inside their home before taking his own life.
Pennsylvania State Police say 26-year-old Ryan Hosso shot and killed his 25-year-old wife, Madeline Spatafore Hosso, inside their home in Seven Fields, in Butler County, early Tuesday, April 28.
Troopers say Hosso called his parents shortly after the shooting and told them he had killed his wife, and also made statements about ending his own life. His parents then called 911 just after 1 a.m., prompting a police response.
“Northern Regional PD responded to the residence and they did find a female victim about 25-years-old with multiple gunshot wounds,” Trooper Bertha Cazy said.
Authorities later located Hosso’s body in a wooded area near the home using thermal drone technology. He had a single gunshot wound, according to police.
Investigators said the case is being treated as an apparent murder-suicide. Police say their crime unit is continuing to canvass the neighborhood and speak with potential witnesses as they work to better understand what led up to the incident.
“Our crime unit will be talking to the neighbors to try and get a history of what was going on and see if there was anything they noticed that was out of place, but I don’t have those details right now,” Cazy said.
The couple had recently married in September 2024, according to a wedding listing on The Knot. Photos shared on social media show the pair together just weeks after their wedding.
Both graduated from Seneca Valley High School in nearby Harmony — Hosso in 2018 and Spatafore in 2019.
Spatafore went on to graduate from Duquesne University in 2023, where she was part of the honors college and involved in student organizations. She later worked as a neurovascular critical care physician assistant at UPMC Presbyterian beginning in late 2024, according to her LinkedIn profile.
Hosso previously worked as a mechanical engineer at Vavco, a Pittsburgh-based engineering firm tied to the oil and gas industry, according to his LinkedIn.
Officials said the investigation remains ongoing.
