Three Kitsap County communities are standing out as the top places to live in 2026.
Bainbridge Island, Poulsbo, and Lofall claimed the top three spots, earning high marks for livability, schools, and overall quality of life based on a mix of data and resident feedback, according to Niche.
Bainbridge Island Leads With Top Overall Grade
Bainbridge Island ranked No. 1 with an overall grade of A. The city, home to about 24,600 residents, continues to draw attention for its strong schools, outdoor access, and short commute to Seattle.
The area earned A grades for health and fitness and outdoor activities, along with high marks for families and jobs. It also posted an A- for commute.
The trade-off comes in cost. The median home value sits at about $1.15 million, while median rent is just over $2,100 — both well above national averages.
Still, with a median household income of more than $172,000, Bainbridge Island remains one of the most desirable — and expensive — places to live in the region.
Poulsbo Offers Balance Of Lifestyle, Affordability
Poulsbo came in at No. 2 with an overall grade of A-. Known for its waterfront setting and walkable downtown, the city of about 12,100 residents scored well across nearly every category.
It earned A grades for outdoor activities and weather, along with strong marks for nightlife, diversity, and family-friendliness.
Housing costs remain a factor, with a median home value around $620,100 and median rent near $1,886. However, both figures are significantly lower than Bainbridge Island, making Poulsbo a more attainable option for many buyers.
Median household income in Poulsbo is about $116,250.
Lofall Rounds Out Top Three With Rural Appeal
Lofall ranked third with an overall grade of B+. The smaller community, with a population of about 1,800, offers a quieter, more rural lifestyle compared to its higher-ranked neighbors.
The area scored well in housing, outdoor access, and overall livability, while maintaining above-average school ratings.
Median home values in Lofall are around $528,300, with rents averaging just over $2,000. Median household income is approximately $113,750.
