Bellevue Teen Wants Your Help Buying A Mustang Before College

Some people use GoFundMe to cover medical bills, emergency expenses, or unexpected hardships.

One Bellevue teen hopes to use it for something a little different: buying a Mustang.

A GoFundMe campaign titled “Help Me Buy a Mustang Before College” is asking the public to help fund the purchase of a used Ford Mustang before classes begin this fall.

“I’m going to be working all summer to save up for a used Mustang to take with me to college,” the unnamed campaign organizer wrote. “At the rate I’m going I won’t be able to buy one before college starts.”

According to the fundraiser, the organizer expects to earn approximately $5,000 this summer working as a receptionist. The problem, they say, is that the Mustangs they’re shopping for typically cost between $7,000 and $9,000.

“Please help me buy my dream car (:” the campaign states.

The Car In Question

The fundraiser features a photo of what appears to be a 2013-2014 Ford Mustang GT convertible.

For Mustang fans, that’s not a bad choice.

The 5.0-liter V8-powered muscle car remains one of the most sought-after used Mustangs on the market, combining retro styling with enough horsepower to make insurance companies raise an eyebrow.

Whether the pictured Mustang is the exact vehicle the organizer hopes to purchase isn’t clear, but it certainly sets the tone.

The Bellevue Factor

The campaign lists Bellevue as the organizer’s location.

According to U.S. Census Bureau data, Bellevue’s median household income exceeds $170,000 per year, making it one of the wealthiest large cities in Washington state.

In other words, this may be one of the few places where a student asking for help buying a Mustang could potentially be parked next to a neighbor driving a six-figure luxury vehicle.

Then again, even in Bellevue, dream cars don’t pay for themselves.

Summer Job Versus Mustang Math

To be fair, the organizer isn’t asking strangers to cover the entire cost.

The fundraiser states that they plan to work throughout the summer and save approximately $5,000 on their own.

Assuming the targeted Mustang costs between $7,000 and $9,000, that leaves a funding gap of roughly $2,000 to $4,000.

Unfortunately for the aspiring pony-car owner, fundraising has gotten off to a slow start.

As of Monday, June 22, the campaign had not received any donations.

Those who believe every college freshman deserves a Mustang can find the fundraiser here.
