A missing stuffed dog, a worried mom, and a stranger who decided not to keep driving turned into one of those rare internet moments where everything actually worked out.
On Saturday afternoon, Madison Deckard posted in the “What’s Happenin’ Sequim” Facebook group asking for help after her 2-year-old son accidentally threw his favorite stuffed dog out the car window while they were driving eastbound on Highway 101 near Sequim.
The toy disappeared sometime after passing Swain’s, according to Deckard, who said she circled back once she realized it was missing — but couldn’t find it.
“He’s had it since he was a newborn,” Deckard wrote in the post. “While I do have a backup it’s not the same and he’s heartbroken.”
About an hour later, Rachel Perry replied with the update every parent would hope for.
“I have it in the back seat of my car!!!” Perry commented. “I was driving down PA a couple of hours ago and saw it, turned around and grabbed it.”
Perry said she figured the stuffed animal was probably important to someone and didn’t want to leave it sitting along the roadside.
“I knew it was definitely loved and missed so I couldn’t leave it on the road,” she wrote.
Deckard quickly responded: “Oh my gosh thank you so much!!! You’re amazing!”
The exchange drew plenty of reactions from other group members, including one commenter who called Perry “such a kind human.”
Not everyone took the sentimental route, though. One commenter joked that “the kid could learn a lesson here,” prompting Deckard to respond with what may have been the most important update of all:
“Lesson was learned and dog was found! Everyone is happy!”
And honestly, for one stuffed dog traveling solo down Highway 101, that’s about as good an ending as it gets.
