One person was killed and several more were injured in a suspected head-on crash involving multiple vehicles that shut down SR-18 in Maple Valley on Thursday afternoon.
The collision happened just west of Southeast 231st Street around 5 p.m., according to Washington State Patrol.
Troopers initially described the crash as a “serious injury head-on collision” involving four vehicles. About 40 minutes later, authorities confirmed that one of the drivers had died from their injuries.
One person was flown to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition while two others were taken to the hospital by ambulance in serious condition, police said.
The crash shut down the eastbound lanes while emergency crews responded. The roadway fully reopened around 6:30 p.m.
