A 16-year-old boy was shot and killed after being robbed of jewelry while walking with his girlfriend in Parkland on Sunday evening, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded around 7:15 p.m. to the 10200 block of Sheridan Avenue South after multiple callers reported a male lying in the roadway with a gunshot wound, the sheriff’s office said.

First responders immediately began life-saving efforts, but the teen was pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary information indicates the victim had been walking with his girlfriend when a vehicle approached and called him over, according to investigators. The suspects allegedly robbed the teen of jewelry, shot him, and fled the area before deputies arrived.

The victim had been walking near the tennis courts at Washington High School before heading north on Ainsworth Avenue South to either 104th Street South or 108th Street South, then turning north onto Sheridan Avenue South.

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office is now asking residents and businesses to check surveillance footage that may have captured the suspects or vehicle involved.

Detectives are specifically seeking video from within a roughly five-mile radius of the shooting scene between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. Saturday. Investigators believe the suspects may have traveled through the areas surrounding Washington High School, Ainsworth Avenue South, and Sheridan Avenue South.

No suspect descriptions had been released as of Monday morning.

Anyone with information or surveillance footage is asked to contact the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.
