If you’ve ever dreamed of owning an old police cruiser, a retired ambulance or a random piece of government equipment, Jefferson County may have exactly what you’re looking for.

The county’s Board of Commissioners has declared dozens of county-owned vehicles and equipment surplus and authorized their sale through public online auctions throughout 2026.

The move comes after commissioners adopted a resolution following a public hearing in May. The sales will be conducted through GovDeals, an online auction platform commonly used by government agencies to sell surplus property.

Among the items headed to auction are former police vehicles, pickup trucks, Ford Escapes, a Ford Focus, Crown Victorias, Dodge Chargers, Volvo tractor trailers, utility vehicles, a snowplow, a boat and trailer, and various equipment attachments.

For anyone hoping to live out their law enforcement movie fantasies, several retired police vehicles are included in the surplus inventory. One Dodge Charger still carries police trim, though emergency equipment has been removed. County records note that mounting holes remain and traces of former decals may still be visible.

Other notable items include an old ambulance, a truck cab and a flatbed trailer.

As of June 8, the county’s GovDeals page listed 14 vehicles, accessories and pieces of equipment available for bidding, with additional listings expected to be added throughout the year.

Many of the items remain in working condition, according to county officials.

“Auctioning surplus items helps the county responsibly manage public assets while providing the community with an opportunity to purchase usable equipment and vehicles,” District 3 Commissioner Greg Brotherton said.

The county said auction listings will be posted incrementally throughout the year. Details about inspections, bidding requirements and item availability are provided directly through the auction website.

Those interested in browsing the available items can visit the Jefferson County GovDeals page or contact Jefferson County Public Works for additional information.
