Seth Green really wants to join the cast of the Dungeon Crawler Carl series — and he’s not above a little subtle begging to make it happen.
The actor, producer and longtime voice actor, 52, is making no secret of his desire to join Peacock’s upcoming live-action adaptation of Matt Dinniman’s wildly popular book series — and he already knows exactly which character he’d like to play.
Seth Green Wants to Play Mordecai
In a post on Instagram, Green asked his followers who their favorite character in the book was, adding “I’m a Mordecai guy myself,” referring to the sarcastic mentor who guides Carl and Princess Donut through the deadly World Dungeon.
While the Family Guy star has a built-in connection to the project through longtime collaborator Seth MacFarlane, who is an executive producer on the series, Green said he isn’t looking to use those ties to land the role.
Instead, he said he’d rather earn it on his own — with a little help from fans.
“I guess I’m just making it known that I think I would make a really good Mordecai,” Green told Variety. “I don’t know what their plan is.”
Green’s Instagram post featured artwork of Mordecai’s many forms. He also tagged Dinniman, MacFarlane and Fuzzy Door, leading fans to wonder whether he was subtly auditioning for the part.
Green Has Longstanding Ties to the Franchise
Green’s interest isn’t coming out of nowhere.
His wife, actress Clare Grant, has been reading the latest Dungeon Crawler Carl book before publication, and Green said he’s followed the series for years.
He also knows Gig Harbor author Matt Dinniman, who created the bestselling fantasy franchise, and has been friends for years with MacFarlane, whose production company, Fuzzy Door, is producing the television adaptation.
Still, Green said he’d rather earn the role than call in favors.
“The only thing that could be convincing is like a thick fan movement where people agree collectively that I could play that part,” Green told Variety. “Otherwise I guess we’re all just fans of this thing.”
Best known for voicing Chris Griffin on Family Guy, Green has spent decades as one of Hollywood’s busiest actors and voice performers.
He co-created the Emmy-winning stop-motion comedy Robot Chicken, starred as Oz in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, appeared in the Austin Powers films as Scott Evil, and has voiced characters in franchises ranging from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to Guardians of the Galaxy, where he provides the voice of Howard the Duck.
What We Know About the TV Series
No casting has been announced for Dungeon Crawler Carl.
Peacock officially ordered the series in June, as Puget Press reported. The adaptation is being written by Chris Yost, whose credits include Thor: Ragnarok and The Mandalorian, with Dinniman serving as a producer alongside MacFarlane and Fuzzy Door.
The wildly popular fantasy series follows Coast Guard veteran Carl and his talking cat, Princess Donut, after aliens transform Earth into a deadly, televised dungeon crawl where humanity fights for survival before an intergalactic audience.
The books have become one of the biggest success stories in the litRPG genre and developed a devoted following, helped in part by Jeff Hays’ acclaimed audiobook performances.
No release date has been announced, though fans are expected to learn more when Dinniman appears at San Diego Comic-Con later this month.
