What was supposed to be a prank was no laughing matter in Seattle’s Bitter Lake, where police say two teens in clown masks with guns harassed women before being arrested.
The incident happened just after midnight Monday, Sept. 15, when two women flagged down officers on Aurora Avenue North, Seattle Police said.
The women reported that the night before, they were approached near North 128th Street by two masked males — one carrying what looked like a gun, the other adjusting his waistband. Fearing abduction, the women ran away.
As the women spoke with officers, a car matching the suspects’ vehicle pulled into a nearby fast-food parking lot.
Officers contacted the two occupants — a 19-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy — and spotted clown masks and extended gun magazines inside the vehicle.
The 19-year-old admitted to the encounter, telling police it was a prank and even showing them video, police said. Both suspects were arrested for investigation of felony harassment.
The adult suspect was booked into King County Jail, while the 17-year-old was booked into the Clark Children and Family Justice Center. The vehicle was impounded pending a search warrant.
Seattle Police are asking anyone with information to call the Violent Crimes Tip Line at 206-233-5000.
