A 17-year-old girl is accused of strangling a woman to death during a disturbance at a Vancouver home.

Deputies responded to a 911 call around 12:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, reporting a disturbance at a residence in the 4200 block of NE 54th Avenue in Vancouver’s Minnehaha neighborhood.

When deputies arrived, they found an adult woman who was not breathing, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office. They and arriving firefighters attempted lifesaving measures, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses told investigators the victim had been attacked and strangled by a 17-year-old girl. Deputies located the teen at a nearby home and took her into custody.

The suspect appeared intoxicated and was uncooperative with law enforcement, authorities said. She was evaluated at a hospital before being booked into Clark County Juvenile Detention on a charge of second-degree murder. Her identity is being withheld because she is a minor.

The sheriff’s office said the victim and suspect were known to each other. Detectives with the Major Crimes Unit executed a search warrant at the scene and collected evidence into the morning hours with assistance from the Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The victim’s name will be released by the medical examiner at a later date. Her family has requested privacy.
