A Puyallup family is facing unimaginable loss after a domestic violence shooting left one daughter dead and another critically injured, as loved ones now rally to support the four sisters and their grieving mother.
The shooting happened around 9:10 a.m. Thursday, April 2, in the 1200 block of 31st Street NW, according to Puyallup Police.
Investigators say a family dispute escalated outside a home, where an adult man armed with a handgun shot two women, killing one and seriously injuring the other, as Puget Press reported. A neighbor intervened and fatally shot the man.
The Pierce County Medical Examiner identified the man as Arnino Velasco Guanlao, 47, and the woman who died as 23-year-old Christiannel Lyle Macapagal Maningat, both of Puyallup.
A second woman, 26, survived and remains hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, police said.
Now, in the aftermath of the violence, the focus has shifted to the family left behind — a mother and her four daughters, whose lives changed in an instant.
A GoFundMe campaign created by a family friend describes the emotional toll of the tragedy, saying one daughter was lost, another is “fighting for her life,” and two others are struggling to process what they witnessed.
“All funds raised will be given directly to [Jennifer Macapagal], the girls’ mother,” organizers wrote on the fundraiser. “The money will go toward funeral expenses… medical bills… and basic living expenses as the family tries to survive during this unimaginable time.”
The fundraiser was created by the son of a close friend of the family, who said he stepped in after seeing how deeply the tragedy has affected them.
“Everything about their lives changed in a matter of moments,” he wrote.
Right now, the family is taking things “one minute at a time,” according to the campaign, as their mother grieves one daughter while remaining at the hospital with another.
Family members remembered Maningat, known to many as “Shiannel,” as a kind and deeply caring person who was studying computer science at the University of Washington and preparing to graduate.
“Christiannel was the type of person who never held grudges and was always so accepting and genuinely kind,” the family told KOMO News. “She made people feel heard and special in a way that not everyone can.”
