A multi-agency manhunt for an inmate who escaped from the Monroe prison on Thursday night culminated in his capture at a Snohomish County transit center late Friday morning.

Samuel Evans Kimble was apprehended without incident around 12:15 p.m. at the Lynnwood Transit Station, according to police.

Kimble escaped from the Monroe prison’s Minimum Security Unit around 10:53 p.m. Thursday, according to the Washington State Department of Corrections.

Staff didn’t notice that Kimble was missing until a formal count was conducted around 3:30 a.m. Friday, prompting a restricted movement order while crews searched the prison grounds, according to officials. A review of security footage later confirmed the time of the escape.

Local law enforcement agencies and nearby schools were notified after Kimble was reported missing.

In an update from Monroe Police around 10:20 a.m., authorities said they believe Kimble fled the Monroe area.

Kimble is serving a 27-month sentence for a domestic violence court order violation following an assault conviction in Snohomish County, according to the Department of Corrections. His expected release date is Jan. 5, 2027.
