A simple question about breakfast burritos quickly turned into a love letter to one Tacoma restaurant.
When Bremerton resident James Villareal asked members of a local foodie group where to find the area’s best breakfast burrito, one name surfaced again and again: Memo’s Mexican Food.
The longtime Tacoma favorite drew the overwhelming majority of recommendations, with fans praising everything from its thick-cut bacon to the sheer size of its burritos.
“Memos has great breakfast burritos! Bacon and eggs is the best,” one commenter wrote.
Another recalled breakfast burritos that were “the size of my forearm,” while others described them as their go-to order whenever cravings hit.
Breakfast burritos have become something of a Pacific Northwest comfort food. Packed with eggs, meat, potatoes, cheese, and wrapped in a warm flour tortilla, they’re equally at home fueling an early morning commute as they are satisfying late-night hunger after a concert, bar shift, or long day.
Memo’s has built a reputation for serving both crowds.
Located in Tacoma’s Hilltop neighborhood at the intersection of Sixth Avenue and Sprague Avenue, the restaurant opened in March 2013 and has become a fixture of the local late-night food scene thanks to its 24-hour schedule and massive menu.
While customers can choose from nearly two dozen burrito varieties, breakfast remains one of the biggest draws.
The restaurant serves breakfast burritos all day, offering seven different options including bacon and egg, sausage, ham and egg, and chorizo.
Among the most praised choices were the bacon-and-egg burrito and the machaca breakfast burrito.
“The (bacon & egg) breakfast burrito is my fav!” one customer wrote in an online review.
Another customer called it the “Biggest Burrito for your Buck.”
Others recommended customizing the chorizo version with cheese and sour cream for an even heartier meal.
Of course, Memo’s wasn’t the only restaurant to earn praise.
Several diners pointed to Grit City Breakfast Bar, where one Reddit user described the burritos as “fire,” while another praised their generous portions and reasonable prices.
Stadium Thriftway also received multiple mentions, with customers highlighting crispy bacon, customizable toppings, and the choice between hash browns or home fries.
Shakabrah Java rounded out the list of frequently recommended breakfast burrito destinations.
Still, if the volume of local recommendations is any indication, Memo’s currently holds a special place in Tacoma’s breakfast burrito conversation.
Whether you’re starting your morning, grabbing lunch, or hunting down a late-night meal, locals say the oversized burritos at Memo’s remain one of Tacoma’s most reliable comfort-food staples.
Memo’s Mexican Food is located at 1703 6th Ave. in Tacoma and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
