A man was killed and a woman and child were hospitalized after a car flipped several times while exiting I-5 in north Everett.
Police and fire crews responded to the scene, located along South 3rd Avenue near 41st Street, at around 8:20 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, according to Everett Police.
A preliminary investigation found that the vehicle rolled multiple times before coming to rest on a railing along the roadway, Everett Fire officials said. Witnesses said the car was exiting northbound I-5 at 41st Street when the driver lost control and crashed north of the roadway.
The impact was so forceful that the engine block separated from the vehicle, landing in a nearby field and igniting a brush fire estimated at 100 feet by 70 feet in size, fire officials said.
A man in the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. Loved ones have since identified him as Theodore Huger, 45, of Marysville. A woman and child were transported to the hospital, though their conditions were not immediately known.
The northbound I-5 on-ramp from 41st Street remained closed as of 11 p.m., along with South 3rd Avenue between 41st and Smith Avenue.
Washington State Patrol is leading the investigation into the cause of the crash.
Additional details about Huger’s life were not immediately available. Loved ones are invited to share a statement, funeral details, and/or photos by emailing michael@pugetpress.com.
