Motorcyclist Killed In Tacoma Crash On I-705 Exit Ramp

A 59-year-old Puyallup man died after crashing his motorcycle into a barrier on a freeway exit ramp in Tacoma.

The wreck happened around 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, on southbound Interstate 705 near the interchange with Interstate 5. The motorcyclist was traveling south and attempting to exit when the bike struck a barrier, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Investigators are still working to determine whether he was taking the ramp toward I-5 or the SR 7 extension at the time of the crash.

“I am saddened to announce that as a result of this crash, the motorcycle rider has died,” Trooper John Dattilo wrote on X.

The victim’s identity was being withheld pending family notification. Loved ones are invited to share a statement, funeral details, and/or photos by emailing michael@pugetpress.com.

The roadway reopened shortly before 8 p.m.
