UPDATE: Two suspects are in custody after a 2-year-old girl was injured during a drive-by shooting at a Tacoma apartment complex on Tuesday night, March 31.

The incident was reported around 9:30 p.m. at The Village at SoTa apartments near South 96th Street and South Hosmer Street. Multiple police and fire units were seen rushing to the complex.

Arriving officers found the 2-year-old suffering from possible gunfire, a Tacoma Police spokesperson confirmed to Puget Press. She was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Residents in the area reported hearing several gunshots moments before emergency crews arrived, according to social media posts.

Nearly two hours after the shooting, around 11:45 p.m., officers located a suspect near Center Street and Union Avenue, and arrested them on suspicion of first-degree assault, police said. A second individual was arrested on suspicion of rendering criminal assistance.

Authorities did not speculate on a possible motive for the shooting or say whether the victim’s home was targeted.
