Taylor Swift’s appearance at the NBA Finals sparked an unexpected debate this week, and now a New York Knicks broadcaster says she got it wrong.
Monica McNutt, the Knicks’ lead radio analyst, apologized after questioning Swift’s fandom during Game 4 of the NBA Finals on Wednesday.
The moment occurred when Swift appeared on celebrity row at Madison Square Garden. During the broadcast, McNutt was caught on a hot mic asking whether the pop superstar was actually a Knicks fan.

“She’s not a Knicks fan. Get out of here, girl,” McNutt said during the game.
The comment quickly spread online, drawing reactions from both Knicks fans and Swift’s famously devoted fanbase.
McNutt addressed the controversy Thursday and acknowledged that Swift’s history with the team goes back further than she realized.
“Swifties, I appreciate your passion. I said what I said. And here’s the deal, if I’m wrong, I am wrong, apparently, because she’s got an OG Amar’e Stoudemire jersey, McNutt told TMZ. “I misspoke, I did not know.”
McNutt said she had not seen Swift at recent Knicks games and was unaware of her past connection to the team.
“So I did not know of her Knicks loyalty, but shoutout to T Swift, we can be united in orange and blue. It’s fine,” McNutt told the outlet.
Swift has attended Knicks games before. She was spotted courtside multiple times in 2014 and even appeared on the Madison Square Garden court with former Knicks stars Carmelo Anthony and Amar’e Stoudemire.
More recently, Swift attended Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals alongside fiancé Travis Kelce, where the pair were seen cheering for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The controversy unfolded during what became one of the most memorable games in Knicks history. New York erased a 27-point halftime deficit and a 29-point third-quarter deficit to defeat the San Antonio Spurs, marking the largest comeback in NBA Finals history.
Swift attended Game 4 wearing a blue “Stevie Knicks” shirt and sat alongside sisters Este and Alana Haim, as well as actress Mariska Hargitay, whose character Olivia Benson inspired the name of Swift’s famous cat.
As the Knicks attempt to capture their first championship in 53 years, fans will be watching not only the action on the court but also which celebrities show up next.
